7 powerful green vegetables to juice

There are a number of organic vegetables I love to use as part of my juice cleanse and I recommend you use these 7 powerful green vegetables to juice for health.

When I read about the benefits of broccoli juice I discovered a long list of fantastic nutritional, antioxidant, mineral and vitamin information.

Some of them include Vitamins A and C to help with mending damaged tissue and keeping our urinary, respiratory and digestive tracts healthy. It also helps to regulate our immune system.

With even more calcium than milk and beneficial to our heart and eye health including broccoli in my green juicing ingredients is a no-brainer.

From what I have read about acid/alkaline foods celery is one of the best for alkalizing the body. Celery is a super food that is rich in sodium (not the crap table salt kind) that helps my body use other nutrients I eat.

Celery also contains potassium. The sodium and potassium in celery are body fluid regulators that stimulate urine production.

This makes celery a powerful diuretic. I know this from personal experience.

Two green juices made primarily from celery and I was peeing all day! It does many other things.

Courgettes (zucchini)

“Courgettes contain very few calories and have a high water content, which makes them a dieter’s friend. They aren’t a powerhouse of micronutrients, but they do provide useful amounts of immune system-boosting vitamin C, and significant levels of potassium, which is key to controlling blood pressure. The soluble fibre in the skin slows down digestion, and so stabilises blood sugar and insulin levels. Soluble fibre also helps prevent constipation and relieves irritable bowel symptoms.”  Source: Guardianwhy courgettes are good for me

Cucumbers contain vitamins A, C, K along with calcium and potassium. Juiced with the skin on they also provide soluble and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber helps nutrients get absorbed through our intestines.

Cucumbers are mainly water (and are actually a fruit although classed as a vegetable) and are great for clearing out toxins just like celery.

They help hydrate our body fluid levels making it an important aid in inflammatory conditions (e.g. arthritis) as well as great for weight loss.

I have noticed that I get a ton of juice from my organic cucumber so they are great to use to help fill the glass.

Cucumber and celery are part of my top three favourite green juicing vegetables. My third is spinach.

There is so much goodness in this green vegetable. I personally hate the taste of it and I still include it in my juice because the health benefits are amazing.

Kale is a superfood that contains vitamins A and C (more vitamin c than an orange), calcium (more calcium than milk) and a huge amount of vitamin K.

It also provides important minerals such as copper, iron, manganese, phosphorous and potassium. As well as containing the eye-health promoting lutein and zeaxanthin compounds.

Because it is high in vitamin K you must be carefully with kale if you take anticoagulant drugs. It can interfere with them. So consult your medical professional before starting any juicing with kale.

Kale also helps when detoxing making it a great inner cleanser.

I have read that it is great for our hair and skin. It fights and treats diseases. It supports our cardiovascular system, reduces cholesterol and the vitamin k helps our bones.

HOWEVER! As with everything too much of  a good thing isn’t good for you. Even if that good thing is kale. I like to vary my juices that is for sure and there is some talk about the effects of too much of all this green goodness. Particularly kale. Read – Dark Side of Kale.

Romaine Lettuce:

This is a recent addition for me as I only discovered the benefits this week. In my next Sainbury’s shop I will include romaine lettuce.

Romaine Lettuce is high in protein and provides calcium, iron, vitamin C, B (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 & B9) and omega 3s.

It is a great source of water. Is rich in vitamins A and K. Is mineral rich and it too helps combat a range of illnesses and diseases.

Spinach. All the great benefits of kale can also be attributed to spinach (save me writing it all up again!) It also contains vitamins B1, B2 and B6.

Spinach is a fantastic alkaline vegetable that is best eaten raw (whereas kale can be best eaten cooked)

It contains folic acid and anti-oxidants and can help with a range of health problems. Its also great for hair and skin too.

Those are the main seven green vegetables to juice for health that I love to use.

Things I Add When I Use Green Vegetables To Juice

1 apple (sometimes 2 if I am using a lot of kale) or 1 pear (sometimes a pear and an apple)

Parsley. Also great for detoxification purposes and a whole lot besides. Look it up for yourself.

Half a lime or lemon with skin off. There is oil inside of lemon and lime skins that can upset your stomach so its best to peel it (I read that some place).

Small piece of ginger

Cayenne pepper – love the kick it gives my juices plus it can act as a bit of a natural appetite suppressant. As well as loads of health benefits.

1 tablespoon of organic raw apple cider vinegar. You can search for the health properties of this and cayenne pepper – it might just blow your mind how fantastic they are for health.

Adding a green punch to my green vegetables

As well as having my juice as it comes sometimes I drag my blender out too and add a teaspoon of Chlorella or Spirulina  powder. I add some water and then add the juice to it all.

I am using Chlorella right now as it also helps with detoxification. If you want to know the difference between Chlorella and Spirulina detox your world explains it beautifully.

I find it all blends better than just stirring the powder into the green juice. I hate lumpy green juice!

This can get a bit messy washing up wise, which is why I will make my juices in the morning and just leave my juicer there until the end of the day.

I never make enough juice for the whole day. I believe juiced vegetables start to lose their potency when left.

But then I work from home so I can afford the luxury of making it when I am ready for a drink.
